The Tree derives its name from the fact that this is the only Tree in the world to have the famous tortoiseshell figuring instead of the normal tree ring pattern. Approximately one third of the 12,000 bf of material harvested from The Tree (about 4 thousand bf) is the tortoiseshell pattern. The other 8 thousand bf are various other patterns that contain their own beauty.
It should be understood that once The Tree billets are gone there will be no more. No other trees with The Tree figuring will be cut since no other is known to exist. This could be a mutation or the figuring could have been caused by a fungus or perhaps the twisting of the trunk had an impact on the figuring. All the wood should be honored and the story should be acknowledged and passed on. It is unknown how much of The Tree is left to produce guitar sets, perhaps a few hundred.
The pricing is a reflection of the rarity and the beauty, but also its vibrant energy. You can truly feel its energy when you are present in the room with this wood. It is exceptional and contains unseen properties that go beyond its visual beauty.
Robert Novak was the person responsible for bringing The Tree out of the jungle in Belize. The arrow is pointing to the board that the sets listed for sale on this site were cut from. This is probably the only documented provenance for sets that exist. While all Tree sets come from The Tree. This is a very exceptional documentation on where the journey began.
